Alia Bracelet

My nickel allergy is bad enough that a cheap watch back leaves a red square on my arm for days. Chain bracelets are worse because the links trap sweat right against the skin. I planned to test this for a couple of hours and ended up wearing it for three days without noticing. There was no redness, no itching, and no rough patch underneath where the chain sits. Four months on I wear it through workouts and sleep in it and my wrist has stayed completely clear. It is the only chain I own that I do not have to think about.

I bought this for a trip to Maui half expecting to store it in the room safe all week. It never left my wrist. Ocean swims every morning, an outdoor rinse afterward, and the resort pool most afternoons for nine days straight. I was sure the clasp would corrode or the links would get that chalky look salt leaves behind. Instead it came home looking identical, and the little bar in each mariner link is still as sharp and shiny as the day it arrived. I now wear it in the shower every day without a second thought.

Chain bracelets are where plating usually gives up on me, because the links rub against each other all day and wear thin at the contact points. That was my entire worry with this one. I have worn it every day since the end of February through the gym, cooking, sunscreen, and constant hand washing. I laid it flat under a lamp this weekend and went link by link looking for dullness or dark edges. There is nothing, not even where the clasp rubs the chain. The gold is still one even tone from end to end.

I am poolside or in the water six days a week all summer. This chain has not dulled or discolored one bit since May. I just rinse it with the rest of me.

I sleep in it and there's never an imprint on my wrist in the morning. Nothing catches on the sheets either. It's become a permanent fixture.

It makes a clear statement without shouting, which is a hard line to walk with chunky jewelry. I have worn it to a gallery opening and to the grocery store.
